Ishi Dojo is the vision of Co-founder and Program Director Brian J. McDonough. Brian has more than twenty years experience in martial arts, nine of which have been as an instructor capacity. He is also a fitness instructor, nationally certified and insured. Equally important, he is knowledgeable in the area of nutritional guidance and motivational techniques. Brian still teaches and studies the disciplines of Kenpo, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, bo jitsu, grappling and boxing. Brian was promoted to First Degree Black Belt in May 1999, Second Degree Black Belt in March 2004 and Third Degree Black Belt in December 2006. Brian received his rank from his Kenpo Instructor Sensei Edward Gaul whom was a student of the late Professor Nick Cerio.
Brian is a former two time WAKO USA team member in full contact kickboxing and participated in the World Championships with 59 other countries in Italy. Most recently he competed at the NAGA New England Grappling Championship in June 2007.
Brian was certified as a trainer in 2000,2003 by the I.F.P.A an accredited and nationally recognized organization(ifpa-fitness.com). Most recently Brian was certified in the most intense, functional and technique orientated training program in the world known as Crossfit (crossfit.com). Crossfit integrates intensity, variance of technique, function ability and specificity of exercise all scaled to the needs of the user. Brian is first aid/CPR certified, fitness cycling experienced and has continued education from Club Industry East Conference- "Prospecting, marketing and selling in the New Millennium" and "Weight Loss Success", AFAA-"Analyze and Build Functional Exercise" and I.F.P.A "Performance Stretching".
Well-known in the Southern New England Area, he has a personal training clientele that includes business professionals, military, law enforcement, youth, athletes and every day people whom just want to get in shape. Some high-profile clients include professional actors Jason Isaacs, Kevin Chapman, Jason Clarke, Richard Gere, and Cary Takagawa.
Wendy has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from George Washington University in Washington, DC and studied Working With Voluntary Organizations at the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK.
Affiliations include Associate Board of Ambassadors of the American Cancer Society’s "Night of Hope;" Advisory Board member of the University of Mary Washington’s Professional Women’s Leadership Colloquium; and Graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, Quantico, VA.
Gerri Lallo, Summer Program Director
The summer program director is Gerri Lallo, a certified middle-school teacher and dance instructor and previous director of many local arts programs such as RISD Summer Arts Camp, Chance to Dance and Provi/Dance.
